Manta rays travelling together in large groups are referred to by an aviation term ‘squadron’. Like many land animals such as baboons, zebra, wilder beast, the mantas will herd themselves together while travelling distances in search of food or to breed. Unlike humans they are not homebound and travel in these large groups for collective safety against predators, forming a protective barrier much like we do with our homes.
