Let the Light In 2023, perforated and burnt 640gsm paper, 152cm x 106cm
This artwork was a finalist in the 2024 Waterhouse Natural Science Art Prize. Let the Light in is a double-sided, perforated work on paper, inspired by the exquisite artistry of a single feather and its tree-like structure – lightweight and flexible but rigid enough for flight. A spattering of burnt holes loosely following the contours of a feather covers the entirety of one side, which results in a ghostly, raised surface on the other, both sides transformed by light. The work is free-standing, mounted in a perspex box that allows the light to shine through the artwork.
