Kiss the Ground
2025, acrylic on board, 150cm x 105cm
"In a conversation between Achim Borchardt-Hume and Giuseppe Penone for his exhibition Spazio Di Luce 2012 - 2013, Penone describes a forest as - “a community of beings with complex relationships existing among its individual members.” -
For the past 47 years I have been living in the Mullumbimby hinterland surrounded by rainforest - much of it ancient. I live in a green world, experiencing great beauty, solace and at times, danger. The forest plays a defining influence in my life and artistic practice. I am constantly aware that my relationship with the forest is transitory and fleeting; I am a visitor merely passing through, as many have done before me. I feel truly privileged to live here.
‘Kiss the Ground' pays homage to a verdant planet that gives us the breath of life.
