media
release
Dr
Dan Wollmering, senior lecturer in the sculpture studio,
Department of Fine Arts, Monash University, is one
of 12 sculptors from 11 countries who has been invited
to participate in the Ninth Guilin Yuzi Paradise International
Sculpture Symposium in China, where a sculpture by
Wollmering will be constructed and permanently installed.
Wollmering,
the only sculptor invited from Australia, has been
asked to fabricate his own sculpture on site with
the help of symposium assistants. The proposed work
entitled "Surge", will be constructed out of stone,
metal and bronze, measuring approximately 3 x 5 x
1.5 metres. To promote sculpture and meet the ongoing
development of Yuzi Paradise, the symposium will be
held from July 1 - 31.
"The main aim of the symposium is to summon eminent
sculptors of the world and have them join together
to exchange discourse and create work." With "protect
nature and create new culture" as it's principle during
construction, Yuzi Paradise is "an international organisation
of art creation and cultural exchange which focuses
on modern sculpture and land art projects. It also
functions as an art creation workshop, exhibition
area, aesthetic education space and cultural attraction."
