Seelander has exhibited in every capital city of Australia, in Tokyo and also
in the original home of Abstract Expressionism, New York. Her paintings are vibrantly
abstract, the gestural marks being influenced by Chinese calligraphy and seeming
to explode across the surface of her paintings. These surfaces vary markedly
from canvas to canvas. Seelander explores the versatility of a range of media
from marble-dust and ochres to high gloss paints and resins. Inspired
by words and poems, Seelander captures the essence of phrases through colour and
gesture. She builds the work up from her emotional response to an idea, directly
influencing the raw power of her works. Her colours can be dazzling in their brilliance:
electric blues, rich golden yellows, intense searing reds. | |
