Artists Statement:
I don’t have any particular studio routines other than sometimes listening to classical or jazz music. My work is about creating visual metaphors and language from my personal experiences and this requires a calm contemplative studio mood.

My most recent work arose from a journey to Antarctica and South America.
Antarctica is an anonymous land, which is expressive of innocence, purity and beauty. Buenos Aires was of particular interest to me because of the atmosphere of the city, the mix of Italian and Spanish cultures, and the Latin music and the tango.

Using all of these as a source of inspiration for the process, I made brush marks, using colour, textures and lines rather than formal composition or illustrations of the landscape. Space is very important as it can create a contemplative area to draw the viewer in and allows them to continue an exploration of the concepts and relationships in my work.

I am travelling to Europe and Morocco in October and one of my objectives is to find fresh inspiration for new work in the next exhibition.
