Juli Haas
Biography

Inside the mind of watercolourist and printmaker Juli Haas, a dazzling world both wrestles with and celebrates the ubiquitous nature of human experience. Long interested in the complexity, humour and rituals of life, Haas's work can be darkly wicked and menacing, whilst containing rich veins of humour.

Recent work has explored the midnight hour, a time, as the artist says, for ‘insane dreamery, nocturnal nonsensical impressions and mad hallucinations’. The artist states, 'In the darkness of the night’s shadows I create my stage and the characters that inhabit that shallow theatrical psychological space. The actors on my dream stage play a role to describe not only my creative process but the continuing journey of express[ing] my world...sometimes intimate and personal...sometimes reflective on society.'

Juli Haas has shown her work in over 100 countries, from Rio de Janeiro to the Barbican Centre London. She has been awarded the Sir John Sulman Prize, the Silk Cut Award, the Shell Art Prize and the Hawaii State Foundation, Art in Public Places, Acquisitive Award. Her highly distinctive and rich imagery is in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, the Art Gallery of South Australia, Queensland Art Gallery, Art Gallery of NSW, numerous regional galleries, and private and corporate collections throughout the world
