With
its inverted perspectives, shifting spatial illusions and transient echoes and
traces of a reflected reality, the beautiful and ephemeral floating world of a
pond provides a rich and complex visual experience that not only lends itself
to aesthetic exploration via the processes of painting but prompts the mind to
contemplation and reverie on the mysteries of a realm beyond appearances.
'My paintings are inspired by the reflective surface of water such as
ponds, creeks and rivers. The contemplative nature of the surface of a pond is
the result of three visual fields coming into play simultaneously - the bottom
of the pool, the surface with its leaves and ripples, and the reflections of what
exists above. All these combine to create the shifting visual ambiguity, which
drives my work. This series is my latest adventure into the ephemeral and the
ineffable via the process of paintings; an ongoing project in which the outcomes,
like the subject of its focus, are in a constant state of flux.'
