Artists Statement:

Rosalie Gascoigne (dec.) and Madonna Staunton are two Australian artists who have used the found object to great affect in collage and assemblage work. The `found mark’ rather than the `found object’ informs the mark making process of my paintings. The city’s walls and walkways are scattered with anonymous marks and traces of everyday life; accidental remnants of industrial work, a child’s chalk drawing, street and road signage, weathering and graffiti are all re-contextualized into personal abstract compositions.
