Statement:
My
studio is at Home
My studio is my Home.
I spend every moment that I can in there, but I do
love the quiet of the night when most other people
are sleeping. I am surrounded by white walls covered
in pinned up images, written words, paint smudges
and airbrushed test swirls. I collect images, some
from glossy magazines, books, old comics and specifically
taken photographs. These are my inspiration. They
are collected physically and in folders on my computer.
I dig through these boxes and folders when I am searching
for an idea and then collage a number of images and
ideas together.
I
listen to 774 ABC radio and love listening to conversations.
I will often write down these overheard words or song
lyrics on my walls, if they are poignant, for later
use somehow. The space becomes cluttered whilst I
am working on an artwork and then I go through a cathartic
clean up and start fresh again on the next piece.
The journey to and from my studio is also important.
More radio whilst I am driving or stuck in peak hour
traffic, many ideas come to me as I sit inside my
visual bubble - my car. When I leave I am longing
to get back and unpack the newfound or revisited ideas
of the day.
