KARLEE RAWKINS JOINS FLINDERS LANE GALLERY
Underpinning Karlee Rawkins’ poignant imagery of wildlife and flora is a concern to examine the symbolic or totemic meanings nature holds within the human psyche. Depicting a variety of animals traditionally associated with scenes of European and Eastern hunting practices her fresh and vibrant paintings signal a more empathetic attitude toward the untamed. Rawkins trained at Sothern Cross University and has exhibited extensively since 1994. In 2003 she was the recipient of The Brett Whiteley Travelling Scholarship and in 2005 and 2007 was a finalist in the Prometheus Art Award.

PETER JAMES SMITH JOINS FLINDERS LANE GALLERY
Peter James Smith addresses the role images play in the formation of memory and identity, both in the individual and collective senses. His works celebrate a sublime sense of possibility and the excitement of discovery while admitting the blacker counterpart of action: accident, disaster and uncertainty. His works chart the desire for progress born of scientific invention and enquiry - and create a space for the imagination, for nostalgic reflection and wonder.
